Conclusions
At its 5 th meeting, on 6 November, having considered a proposal by the Chairman, the SBSTA adopted the following conclusions:
(a) The SBSTA noted with appreciation the progress report and comprehensive presentation by the secretariat on the development of the technology information system and its web pages. It also noted the technical paper entitled "Technology transfer clearing house and international information network: proposal for activities" (FCCC/TP/2001/2);
(b) The SBSTA invited the Parties and relevant international organizations to register and to test the system further;1
(c) The SBSTA invited the Parties to submit their views to the secretariat by 15 February 2002 on:
(i) The technical paper indicated above;
(ii) The issues identified in the annex to document FCCC/SBSTA/2001/4;
(iii) The roles of Parties in supporting the technology information system; and
(iv) Any feedback on testing the system.
(d) The SBSTA requests the secretariat:
(i) To continue its work on the technology information system, drawing on links between its work and the work of existing institutions and networks, in particular, information relating to adaptation technologies; and to explore the feasibility of including information on private and publicly-owned technologies, joint research and development programmes, examples of success stories and case studies on technology transfer; and
(ii) To summarize the above-mentioned submissions from Parties, including feedback on their experience in using the system, and to report to the SBSTA at its sixteenth session;
(e) The SBSTA, pending the adoption of decision 4/CP.7 on the development and transfer of technologies:
(i) Took note of the experts that were nominated by the Parties to serve on the expert group on technology transfer (see Annex I);
(ii) Requested the secretariat under the guidance of the Chairman, to organize an expert workshop on technology information to consider matters identified in the annex to decision 4/CP.7 on the development and transfer of technologies, taking into account the technical paper referred to in paragraph 33 (a) above (FCCC/TP/2001/2) as well as submissions on this matter received from Parties, and to make recommendations to the SBSTA for further consideration at its sixteenth session;
(iii) Requested the secretariat to organize a preparatory meeting of the expert group on technology transfer to enable it to develop a programme of work for further consideration by the SBSTA at its sixteenth session.
