The contents were revised with the direct assistance of the MCT and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This manual is a document produced by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the GEC (Global Environment Centre Foundation). Its objective is to provide a better understanding of the Clean Development Mechanism - CDM, specifying its concepts and rules in order to provide more detailed guidance to the stakeholders involved, especially project developers and policy makers.

The objective of this booklet is to provide the reader with basic information about the so-called greenhouse gases and their relation with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which was negotiated and signed during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, in Rio de Janeiro , in 1992.
