Notícia sobre a Rio +20 Impa shows mathematic applications in climatic studies
12/06/2012 - 15:18

How studies and mathematical models can help in the search for solutions and understanding of natural phenomena and climate changes. In order to show a little about the surveys carried out in the area, the Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (Impa), a social organization associated to the Ministry of Sciences, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), will present five projects developed by researchers around the “green economy” theme at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), in Rio de Janeiro.

The visitors can check out in videos and presentations the mathematical modeling of tsunami waves, river waves (responsible for floods), giant waves below water level that endanger oil rigs and divers' lives, in addition to applications for imprisonment/removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere with the goal of reducing global warming.
