Notícia sobre a Rio +20 Prevention of natural disasters at the Cemaden exhibition
14/06/2012 - 15:42

The use of science, technology and innovation to anticipate natural disasters and help save lives. This is the theme for the exhibition by the National Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alert Center, (Cemaden / MCTI) at pavilion 4 during Rio+20. Its main mission is to develop, test and deploy a prevention system in this area throughout the country.

Through animated resources, Cemaden shows - in an area measuring 36 square meters - the work done since last year, which involved analyzing adverse weather situations, identifying areas at greatest risk of disaster, weakness in the use and occupation of land, and raising public awareness of the need for better urban planning.

For the period from 2012-2014, Cemaden plans to make intensive use of a National Risk Management Planning System to plan and optimize research and development and infrastructure agendas for the entire monitoring and alert system. The work is done by multidisciplinary teams of operators including experts in meteorology, hydrology, geology and natural disasters and which use data from various atmosphere, surface, soil, watershed, remote sensing and community sensing observation sources.
